In the days and weeks leading up to the Presidential election, many people I talked to seemed to be unclear on where the two candidates stood on abortion. I spent hours explaining to voters during our “Vote Anti-Abortion” campaign where they stood on the right to life of the preborn. So, here are a few things I would often share with voters that they could expect from the Biden Administration as it relates to the preborn based on promises he made, things he has said, and his party platform.
1. Biden intends to build on the Affordable Care Act which was passed during his time as Vice President under the Obama Administration. He proposes that “the public option will cover contraception and a woman’s constitutional right to choose.”
2. The Biden Administration intends to repeal the Hyde Amendment, which prohibits the federal funding of abortion.
3. He intends to codify Roe V. Wade since it is not within the Constitution and work to stop states from restricting abortion.
4. Biden plans to rescind the Mexico City Policy (expanded under the Trump Administration). It requires foreign non-governmental organizations to certify that they will not “perform or actively promote abortion as a method of family planning” using funds from any source (including non-U.S. funds) as a condition of receiving U.S. government global family planning assistance.
5. Biden is endorsed by Planned Parenthood and was given a 100% voting record from their organization.
6. The Biden Administration is currently loading up on individuals who have a track record of supporting abortion and attempting to silence pro-lifers.
Our team continues to go to high school campuses this month. No matter what the season is, our team is at one of the abortion facilities in Columbus multiple times a week.
Our ministry does not rely on the President or other politicians for our work to be effective, we are committed to and focused on changing individual hearts and minds on abortion through our work on public squares and college campuses. While I am disappointed that Biden will be our next president, I know that our ministry can and will continue. I know that there is more that President Trump could have done during his time in office for the preborn, but I am grateful for what he did do on their behalf.
Matthew 1:23 says, “’Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and they shall call his name Immanuel’ (which means, God with us).” As the year draws to a close and my heart and mind have been turning towards the celebration of the Incarnation of Christ, I have also been thinking back on the many challenges of 2020. I have been thinking about how, despite the despair in the world around us (as evidenced by the skyrocketing suicide rates), I have not felt despair this year because of the truth found in this verse. Immanuel, God with us. What a precious truth to cling to during this time.
Merry Christmas,
Ian
